I like this idea, but I can see why Cabelas and Bass Pro stay away from sponsoring Olympic shooters. First of all is the missing network coverage, if these sports were shown on television, I am sure things would be different. Point number two, aside from network coverage, Olympic shooters dont use equipment from Cabelas or Bass Pro. In firearms categories, most of the equipment must be ordered from Europe because there simply is not enough involvement from Americans in Olympic shooting sports. As a collegiate shooter, I know that shooting equipment is not only hard to find in the US, it is also ungodly expensive. Nothing we use in the sport can be found in any major catelog besides the under armor we wear under our shooting gear. I wish there was a bigger corporate sponsonship, but i can honestly see why there is not.

Thanks for the rant. Every Olympics I go through the same thing. I trained for the '96 Games in the javelin and had to hustle for my own corporate and private sponsors. Even with the $16,000 I learned to live on, it doesn't compare with what the Europeans receive. What always disappointed me is what the USOC decides to pay its employees. As a not-for-profit entity, they act like a Fortune 500 company. I would say donate, but with most going into their pockets, I would rather people look up athletes in their favorite sports and make a personal donation. Thanks again and congrats to all of this years Olympians.

We don't see the shooting sports on TV, because the networks got agenda. They can't show shooting sports in a positive light, because that would contradict their gun rights rhetoric that they normally spill to average Americans on a daily basis.

This post is great, because I was just talking about this same thing the other day.

I also agree with you on the sponsors. Where are Cabelas, Bass Pro, and the like. It would definitely make sense for them to be involved.
