Montana Rancher Gives Back To Disabled Vets

Montana Rancher David Lee has come up with a very unique way to say "Thank You" to our disabled veterans.

David has opened up his 30,000 acre ranch in Eastern Montana to disabled vetrans so they can go Elk hunting with a bow.

Mr. Lee ran into a few problems last year when he opened up his ranch. Mainly, a person had to have a Montana hunting license and be drawn for a Elk tag in that area in order to hunt.

However, there were 4 Montana hunters who were able to participate.

This year Mr. Lee is also offering some top notch Fly Fishing for disabled veterans.

David has went as far as rigging his pickup and drift boat so that they are wheelchair accessible. He's also converted a cabin to be wheelchair accessible also.

You can read the full story in the Missoulian and find out more about the Angel Fire Foundation by clicking here.

What a very noble and kind thing to do Mr. Lee. I wish you all the best and I thank you for thinking of our disabled veterans. I hope many, many disabled veterans will be able to take advantage of your kindness.

I saw this story as well and I think it is absolutely awesome. Good to see things happening like this. Seems everything we see about the outdoors is always negative so a change of pace such as this is awesome!

    Mr. Lee,
I am a 100 o/o, Viet Nam Combat Related, Disabled Vet, a Para in a Wheelchair.
I served with the 82 nd Airborne for 6 months and then with the 173 rd Airborne in Viet Nam in 1970-1971, where I was shot 4 times and B-40 Shrapnel cut my Spine, paralizing me from the waist down.
I First heard about your giving back to Disabled Veterans by allowing them to hunt on your Ranch, and Helping them in so many ways. I commend you for this and I think you are a Great American for doing this.
When I Heard of Clyde Walls , from Georgia, off a Chat site of the NAHC, that he knew of such a place, I contacted him at once. WE talked on the phone last summer and he told me everything I needed to do. I sent him the paper work showing from the VA that I am indeed 100 o/o Disabled he said he would forward this to you. In Jan I put in for a Combo General Tag for Elk and Deer and I Drew.we were suppose to do this together, but Mr. Walls said he already sent his in before mine. Since the Draw, April 15, I have been trying to contact Mr. Walls with Phone calls,”Unsuccessfull” many Emails, again “Unsuccesfull” Emails on the Clubs Chat Site, he is on Daily. and received One message saying I will have to wait to see if my name is picked out of a Hat now and will be notified by a letter from you.
It has been a month since I have heard anymore. To put in for an Archery Tag and the Zone, I have only till June 2, in which is just around the corner. If I am not able to hunt your Ranch, I will need to find another Place to Hunt as know a Zone for the Hunt and I will need to make Reservations at a Hotel.
I would appreciate it very much if you could tell me if I am on your list to Hunt this Fall or Not. So I will be able to find another Place to Hunt Elk.
I Was filled with so much Hope from Mr. Walls on this hunt, With all my Excitement about this hunt, that for Month’s it keep me awake most nights just thinking what this hunt could mean.
I found since my return home from Viet Nam, the Outdoors is my Life, as my wife and my 15 year old daughter, I started Bow hunting whitetail here in Iowa and it has added so much to my life. Being in the outdoors is what I call, My Theaphy in the woods.
Through the years I have been trying both Gun and Bow for Elk. 5 years ago I was lucky enough to take a small 4×5 in Idaho with a rifle, on public land. I always wanted to try again, and with lots of talk’s with my wife and daughter, was given the OK. Mostly was do to your Offering Your Help and Place and a lot of the Exspenses we wouldn’t have. I wouldn’t be able to afford this type of hunt with anyone else..
I have been in Contact with some of Montana’s DNR Officers asking them for their help in finding your full name and address, in hoping I could contact you in person, since Mr’ Walls wouldn’t release your name as of anymore information.
Again, “Thank You” for your time and for wanting to Help the Disabled American Vet’s. The World Needs More People Like You.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Wayne M. Lau

My brother was one of the disabled vets that benefited from David Lee and his family for a free hunt. That hunt changed my brothers whole outlook on life and kept him going in a really sad time in his life. He still talks about the hunt and how gracious the Lee family was. THANK YOU for giving back to our veterans. Patty
