Deer Hunting In Georgia
Deer hunting in Georgia has long been a tradition for many Peach State residents and non-residents alike. That's no earth shattering news to many of you, many states harbor a long tradition of deer hunting, Georgia being only one. However, Georgia is a state that seems to be a "sleeper" for many non-residents. For most deer hunters, when they think of deer hunting in the South, Alabama and Mississippi come to mind, not Georgia.
The Piedmont region of Georgia along with the Southwest part of the State have long been know for their Giant bucks. Those are good areas to go if you're looking for a bruiser of a buck. For our purposes, we just want to find a nice place to hunt deer with a reasonable expectation of shooting one, preferably without paying an arm and leg to do it. That's why I'm reviewing the Public Lands in the [tag]Hotspots[/tag] section of this blog.
In the North West part of the State, try your luck at the Paulding Forest WMA. Paulding Forest is just outside of Dallas Ga. and consist of 25,707 acres of prime deer habitat. The upper section of this WMA lies on the Polk and Paulding Countie line.
My Picks of Public Hunting Lands In Georgia
Sheffield is a smaller WMA near Paulding. Sheffiedl consist of only 3299 acres and is open to bow hunting only.
Rum Creek WMA is near the center of the state and offers 6,000 acres of Public Hunting. I've heard from more than one person that there are some nice deer with good numbers in this WMA.
Pine Log Mountain WMA is in the upper left corner of the State and gives up 14,000 acres of Public Hunting. Pine Log along with Paulding are popular places for Atlanta residents to go hunting. If you'll get off the well traveled roads a ways, you can let any hunter near the road send you the bucks!
Blue Ridge WMA is in the North Central part of the state. If you're looking to put some mountains and valleys between you and the crowd, head here. Blue Ridge has over 38,000 acres of Public hunting for you to get some exercise. Blue Ridge WMA lies in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Oconee WMA lies next to Oconee Lake and consist of just over 4000 acres of Public Hunting. Oconee WMA is about center of the state and a little to the North East.
