I was reading a post by Arthur over at SimplyOutdoors.Net the other night. He had an excellent post on baiting deer. After reading his post, I found that we have some of the same opinions about baiting Deer.
The best way I can sum up the new Bass Pro Store in Pearland Texas is; A Lot of Fluff, Little Substance.
I’ve looked forward to this store opening ever since Bass Pro announced they were going to build it. Currently, the nearest Bass Pro Store to me is in Katy Texas. It’s about an hour and half, sometimes two to get to the Katy store. You have to drive through Houston stop and go traffic, navigate a mess of road construction and short tempered drivers to get there.
I’m going to assume that you haven’t lived under a rock your entire deer hunting life. However, even if you have, I’ll briefly describe what a deer funnel is.
A deer funnel is basically anything that causes deer to pass through a narrow or restricted area. Think of the tiny midsection of an hour glass and you’ll get the picture.
Hunting fields and food plots seems to be a pretty popular subject going by the number of emails I receive. With a little scouting and pre-planning, you can have that field visiting Buck strung up in no time!
Back in the early 80’s (as best as I can recall, it may have been earlier), Oklahoma started an experiment with some of their WMA’s that had a lot of bottom land. They would take a certain area of green timber and build dikes around it then flood it in the fall. The water depth would normally be around 18 inches to 2 feet, some areas a little more, some areas had less. This was in an effort to attract migrating ducks to the flooded timber in an effort to provide them with a resting area where they could feed and a place hunters could hunt ducks until 1 p.m.
The Mule deer you hunt in November is not the same Mulie you’re trying to sneak up on in August or September. It’s important you know the differences if you hope to get within bow or muzzle-loader range of a good Mule Deer buck.
I know and you know, sometimes we just have lousy seasons. There may be things that happen that are out of our control that cause us to miss an opportunity to bring a deer, or deer, home.
If you’ve done any deer hunting at all, you know the Moon phase plays a part in the behaviour of deer. Not only Whitetail Deer, but Mule Deer and other game animals. I know people who will not go deer hunting when the Moon is full. You don’t have to miss out on some of of the hottest hunting of the deer season just because the Moon is full. Here are a few tips to help you take advantage of any Moon phase during the deer hunting season.
