Montana Deer Herds Hit Hard by Bluetongue Outbreak

I came across a story today in the Billings Gazette about an outbreak of Bluetongue disease in Montana Deer and Antelope. This outbreak in Montana looks like it's worse in the Musselshell River drainage, especially from Roundup to Melstone according to one biologist. However, reports of dead Deer and Antelope have come in from a wide area.

Deer hunters in Tennesse can now go to school to learn how to hunt deer. No Joke!
The Northeast State Technical Community College is offering classes on Whitetail Deer. The classes run from 6 to 9 pm on Septemeber 10, 12, 17 and 19. There is a $25 charge for the classes.

Missouri Rolls Out Mentoring Program For Hunters

Missouri has to be one of the most Youth friendly hunting states in the Union. They have a host of youth-only hunts and programs for school age kids to get them involved in the sport of hunting and shooting.
Missouri has now developed a mentoring program for older teens and adults who may not otherwise get the chance to hunt or shoot.
Attention New Mexico Hunters - Surplus Permits Available August 7!

According to the New Mexico Dept. of Game & Fish, there are about 2000 left over Permits available for Deer and about 60 left over Permits for Elk available. These Permits will be available on the Departments website starting at 8 a.m. on August 7th.
Michigan Deer Hunting Rule Changes Plus Antlerless Permits

Hey Michigan deer hunters, it's time to apply for your antlerless permits. Very few, if any, antlerless permits are expected to be available over the counter this year, so you'd better make sure you get yourself and your party in the drawings.
The deadline to have your application is in August 15. You'll be able to see the drawing results starting on September 10 at 10 a.m. by going to the Michigan DNR website. There is a $4 application fee.
New ‘07 Regulations For Kentucky Deer Hunters

If you're going to be hunting deer in Kentucky during the fall '07 deer season, there's some new regulations that you'll need to know about.
I don't know if the citizens of Kentucky have had a problem with this, but the new regulations stipulate that if you own a Concealed Carry permit, it's still illegal to carry a modern firearm into the woods during Archery, Crossbow and Muzzleloading season.
California To Ban Lead Bullets?

I came across this story on the news wire today. I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't a joke. It wasn't. California wants to ban lead bullets to save the Condor. Do Condors fly around and look for bullets to eat?
