Great tips!!! buck fever term is something new to me but I got those shakes a lot. I keep telling myself that if I continue on feeling like this I won't be able to take home any buck, so I usually calm my mind by deep breathing before squeezing the trigger.

All very good tips! For me, breathing is the most important aspect of dealing with Buck fever. Whether it is a spike deer or a big 8-pointer, I always have to keep myself calm with proper breathing.

I killed my first deer this year. A doe with a bow and arrow. I missed 2 deer as a youth, but haven't hunted, until this year, since I was about 12.

I had about a 5 minute stare down with the doe. My heart was pounding. When I decided to take the shot (and could move my arm to pull the bow back), everything went away. It was almost like shooting at my foam target because all I was thinking about was my technique. Once I saw the blood on the arrow, I was not so calm however!

The day I lose the Buck Fever feeling is the day I hang up the bow. Love the feeling and great tips on how to control it.

Great information. It is good to keep the mind under control. Focus is essential to reach the ultimate goal - to bring home the creature. Some thing I will work at again this season.

This is a great post.

I too get the shakes after the shot. I'm a basket case, but during the shot I'm completely focused.

All of your tips were great, especially the one about visualizing your shot. I think that goes along way.

The other tip you provided that was great is to pick a spot. I think that is the biggest mistake, that archers especially, forget about when the moment of truth comes.

Interesting - and good info. I think seeing game is a big one. Especially true for a first time elk hunter that is used to hunting deer - they see and elk up close and don't realize how big they are - that's when they freak out! It is always good to familiarize yourself with the animal you are hunting as best you can.
